The Hive is a Ministry of Youth Development (MYD) Youth Voice Project that uses an innovative approach to increase young people’s participation in the government policy development process. MYD worked in partnership with design agency Curative and 15 rangatahi (young people) on this project and this post focuses on lessons learnt that will be useful for other engagement work.

This update provides detailed information about what constitutes an essential 'social service' and what this means, following recent Government announcements. This information relates to Oranga Tamariki and Ministry of Social Development (MSD) funded services. It also provides information on the combined approach that the Government’s social sector funding agencies will take to funding services and managing contracts during this time.
As part of the Government’s response to COVID-19, new funding is being prioritised to support community efforts on the ground. There are community groups and individuals doing critical work in the fight against COVID-19. This funding will allow them to continue to support their communities and help them through challenges they may face in the coming months.

Held every year, Youth Week is a nationwide festival of events organised by young New Zealanders to celebrate the talents, passion and achievements of rangatahi. The week also recognises the youth workers, youth service providers and others working with and for young people.
Great to see our colleagues in the MSD Pacific Team, championing youth voice by having a virtual cup of tea with two young Pacific stars to hear their thoughts on COVID-19 and beyond.
