Youth Parliament 2022 mock bill ballot

A ballot has been held at Parliament to select the mock bill which will be debated and reported on during the two-day Youth Parliament event being held on 19 and 20 July 2022. This was the first event to take place during the tenure of the 141 young participants of Youth Parliament 2022 who will serve as Youth MPs, the Youth Clerk, and the Youth Press Gallery for the next six months.
The ballot was livestreamed and both Speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives The Rt Hon Trevor Mallard and the Minister for Youth, Hon Priyanca Radhakrishnan spoke. You can watch the recording of the livestream here.
The three topics entered into the ballot were the Electoral (Voting Age) Amendment Bill; Modern Slavery in Supply Chains and Operations Bill; and Minimum Wage (Starting-Out Wage Abolition) Amendment Bill. The topic drawn from the ballot was the Minimum Wage (Starting-Out Wage Abolition) Amendment Bill. More information on the mock bill ballot and the topics can be found here.
