Wairarapa Youth Conference

With support of Ministry of Youth Development funding the Masterton District Council is hosting a Youth Council Conference on 14 - 15 July 2014 in Masterton. The organisers expect up to 100 young people from the North Island's Central South region to attend.
The Conference
The vision for the conference is that youth will leave feeling inspired to become leaders, to encourage youth participation and advocate the inclusion of youth voices in their communities. It is also designed to give participants an increased understanding about local and central government and ways in which young people can have a positive impact on their communities.
Conference Topics
The Wairarapa Youth Conference will cover topics chosen by the Wairarapa Youth Council. These are:
- Connect Community
- Leadership
- Communication
- Youth Engagement
- Youth Participation
- Youth Parliament
The Conference will also be a forum to celebrate achievements and successes of Youth Councils.
On the first day of the conference there will be an opportunity for six Youth Councils to give presentations about thier experiences. They will share ideas among the participants and inspire each other to become creatively involved in their communities.
Participants to get to know each other and learn about the tools and skill sets they each bring.
MYD involvement
MYD will facilitate workshops about youth participation and Youth Parliament.
The Conference ties in with a wider piece of work exploring the function and practices of Youth Councils in the North Island's Central South region.
