The Duke of Edinburgh's Hillary Award

On Saturday 16 August 2014, His Excellency Lt Gen, The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mataparae, Governor-General of New Zealand welcomed almost 500 people to Government House.
The purpose for this busy day was to present the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Awards, Queen’s Scouts Award and Queen’s Guide Awards to young people from throughout New Zealand in the Ballroom at Government House, Wellington.
Morning Ceremony
Deputy Mayor of Porirua Anna Coffey was the guest speaker for the morning Ceremony.
The ceremony included presentations of 38 Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Gold Awards and 20 Queen’s Scout Awards to students from Colleges and Universities from throughout New Zealand. Approximately 210 recipients, parents, friends and officials attended this ceremony.
In attendance was Sue Walker Regional Director Asia-Pacific, The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation, the Chairperson and members of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award Trust, staff of the Trust, Paul Foster-Bell MP representing the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sandra Meredith Senior Advisor representing the Ministry of Youth Development.

Afternoon Ceremony
Sue Walker, Regional Director Asia Pacific at The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation was the guest speaker.
The afternoon ceremony included 56 Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Gold Awards and 1 Queen’s Guide Award presented to recipients in the Ballroom at Government House, Wellington. Approximately 209 recipients, parents, friends and officials attended this.
In attendance were the Chairperson and members of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award Trust and staff of the Trust, Paul Foster-Bell MP representing the Minister of Youth Affairs, Arthur Grooby, Director Ministry of Youth Development and Dibs Patel, Manager Youth Services Ministry of Youth Development.

Evening Ceremony
A further ceremony was held at 5pm to present GirlGuiding NZ with The Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Gold Awards and Queen’s Guide Awards and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Gold Awards to members of The Order of St John’s.
Each ceremony was followed by mix and mingle providing an opportunity to chat with Award participants.
