Youth in Local Government Conference
14 May 2012
The Kapiti Coast District Council and Kapiti Coast Youth Council took top prize at the 2012 Youth in Local Government Awards held in Gore in April and were commended for their Youth2U Action Plan.
The action plan resulted from a 2010 survey and involved the Youth Council consulting with young Kapiti people and collaborating with them on positive youth development in the district.
The awards were part of the three day Youth in Local Government Leadership Conference supported by Invercargill City Council and Southland and Gore district councils, Venture Southland, Mayors Taskforce for Jobs and the Ministry of Youth Development.
Representatives from councils around the country attended, as well as many young people with a passion for local government and community participation in council activities.
The awards showcased great initiatives from youth councils around New Zealand.
