Great prizes on offer awarded for Youth Parliament 2016 essay competition
Youth Parliament 2016 had a lot to offer! Not only did its participants get the opportunity to experience Parliament as either a Youth MP or Youth Press Gallery member, they were also invited to enter an essay competition sponsored by the New Zealand Business and Parliament Trust after the completion of their tenure.
Participants in Youth Parliament 2016 were advised of the essay topic:
"Why should young people become engaged in civic affairs and politics"?
The winner (prize $2,500) was Karan Kalsi (an essay), Youth Member of Parliament representing Hon David Cunliffe.
The first runner up (prize $2,000) was Stefan McLean (a video), Youth Member of Parliament representing Brett Hudson.
The second runner up (prize $2,000) was Leah Bell (a speech), Youth Member of Parliament representing Barbara Kuriger MP.
New Zealand Business and Parliament Trust organises and sponsors the competition, which is worth $6,500 in total.
