Prime Minister's Youth Programme (PMYP) 2018 is underway!

22 January 2018

PMYP, aimed at acknowledging young people who have faced challenges in their lives and are now positively moving forward, is now underway in Auckland with young people attending a four-day programme from 22-25 January 2018.

The Prime Minister's Youth Programme (PMYP) is for young people aged 14 - 17 years old from Auckland who have faced challenges in their lives and are now positively moving forward or who are showing the potential to do so. For example, young people who have moved away from low levels of offending, truancy or poor academic performance and have made a sustained attempt to make positive life changes.

Participants take part in a range of different activities designed to further develop life skills and provide a great insight into further education and potential career paths.

As well as learning new skills, there's still plenty of time for making new friends through team building and gaining new experiences like song writing, dance workshop, rope climbing, sailing and many more. Participants are also mentored for three months to support working towards future goals.

The programme is an important time to recognise and celebrate this group of young New Zealanders who, despite incredible challenges, are doing very well. This programme is all about investing in them to build capability and resilience so that they can thrive now and into the future.
