Youth Week 2014 is held between 17 and 25 May. The Ministry of Youth Development and Ara Taiohi are proud to bring you the Youth Week 2014 Awards. These awards will celebrate the achievements that young New Zealanders make everyday.

The Minister of Youth Affairs has announced that twenty four young New Zealanders have been awarded a Youth Week 2014 Award. For the full list of award recipients and their profiles click here.

Call for Nominations

Nominations close Monday 28 April 9am

The Ministry of Youth Development are calling for nominations for the Youth Week 2014 Award. These awards recognise and celebrate young people aged between 12 and 24 who have made a significant contribution to their community. They are intended for outstanding young people who are valued as active members of their community.

Recipients of a Youth Week 2014 Award will be announced by Hon Nikki Kaye, Minister of Youth Affairs, during Youth Week held between 17 and 25 May 2014.

Nomination Criteria

A Youth Week 2014 Award nominee will have made a significant contribution to their community.

Nominees must:

  • participate in the activities they have been nominated for outside of their regular study or work commitments
  • be aged between 12 and 24 on 17 May 2014
  • have lived in, and be currently living in, New Zealand for the past 12 months
  • have particpated in the activities they have been nominated for within the past 12 months.

Award Categories

The Youth Week 2014 Award will be awarded to a number of recipients in each of the following Award categories:*

Change Maker
The Change Maker Award will be awarded to a young person who through embracing diversity is creating change in their community.

Leadership
The Leadership Award will be awarded to a young person who has demonstrated their leadership in a project or organisation.

Giving Back
The Giving Back Award will be awarded to a young person whose actions address a current need and have had a significant impact on their community.

Working for Youth
The Working for Youth Award will be awarded to a young person whose actions specifically support other young people, this may include sport, cultural or arts activities.

*Nominees will only be eligible for one award, however, at the selection panel's discretion, nominees may be considered for categories other than the category they were nominated for.

Nominations received after this deadline will not be considered. Following 28 April, a panel will consider all nominations.
